The Art and Science of Teaching Institutes

Monday 27 October
Tuesday 28 October
Thursday 30 & Friday 31 October

The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership’s Teacher Performance and Development Framework (AITSL, 2010) urges schools to focus on improving teaching practice in order to raise student achievement. Dr Robert Marzano’s the Art and Science of Teaching is a research-based framework for understanding effective teaching. When introduced as a school-wide instructional framework, The Art and Science of Teaching provides a common language of instruction for teachers from R–12, enabling collegial dialogue and reflective practice. It provides school leaders with an effective tool for giving precise feedback and coaching support to teachers enabling individual and school-wide improvement.

With over 1000 Australian educators trained in the Art & Science of Teaching, many have articulated how it has a made a difference to them…

I felt inspired to improve but did not feel bad about my current practice.
The ideas and framework presented seemed logical and achievable
- Kristy Hinch, Indooroopilly State High School

I particularly loved the fact t`hat all 9 (design) questions were covered so we gained
an excellent understanding of The Art and Science of Teaching and ideas to proceed
- Cathy Stevenson, St Peter’s Primary Port Macquarie

It was fabulous and I learnt some great strategies that I have now put in place. It was
also very inspiring and really gave me a boost with my teaching. Tammy was dynamic
and her enthusiasm and knowledge was inspiring. Thank you
- Heather Johnson, Ferny Hills State School

Overall participant feedback from the last Art and Science Institute

deepening process
- Lee Shulman (2004)
